Westgold is tapping into the festive season shopping rush to boost the profile  of the two nationwide charities it supports, Good Bitches Baking and Garden to Table.

 

Westgold’s Senior Brand Manager Leanne Clemens says a pop-up site in Westfield’s Albany Mall on December 15 is designed to highlight the work of both charities and the difference they are making to people’s lives.

 

Good Bitches Baking was set up eight  years ago by Nicole Murray and Marie Fitzpatrick with the aim of spreading kindness to people having a tough time. Today there are 30 chapters nationwide with around 2700 volunteers sending out about 1000 boxes of baking a month to 338 recipients which include hospices, children’s hospital wards, food banks, mental health, LGBTQIA+, elder care and sexual violence support services, grief recovery groups, refuges and many more.

 

Garden to Table is a charitable trust that supports primary and intermediate schools and kura to take learning out of the classroom and into the garden and kitchen. More than 22,000 children took part in the programme last year, spending more than 30,000 hours learning essential life skills while growing, harvesting, preparing and sharing fresh kai.

 

Leanne Clemens says that Westgold is delighted with its partnership with both charities.

“Westgold seeks to inspire people to cook healthy, nutritious and delicious food. Our partnership with Garden to Table gives us an opportunity to spread that message at the same time supporting the charity’s incredible work which is having a  major impact on the education and health of future generations,” she says.

 

“Good Bitches Baking also aligns closely with our values. Our message to the community is all about spreading joy through cooking and baking. The partnership with Good Bitches Baking brings us closer to those who bake for kindness, giving us an outreach to the community and allowing us to share with those who need it.”

 

Representatives of both charities will be at the Albany pop-up site to share their tips on baking and growing and harvesting fruit and vegetables from a garden, along with educating shoppers on their charities and encouraging people to get involved.

 

“To further tempt those shopping at the Albany Mall , we will be giving away little packets of freshly-baked buttery shortbread cookies, made with Westgold butter of course,” Clemens says.

 

“We will also be encouraging bakers  to try some of the recipes that we have developed in-house.

Ultimately charity starts at home and we would love people to be inspired to surprise a family member or friend with delicious home baking, so we are also giving away recipe cards for baking that is great to share.”
